In July 2014, Interfaith Dental Clinic became a clinical training site for an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency program, through a partnership with NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine and University of Tennessee Health Science Center (Memphis). NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine serves as the educational sponsor of this postdoctoral dental residency training program. The program’s goal is to ensure access and equity in oral health care for all underserved communities around the globe. NYU Lutheran’s AEGD program educates nearly 300 dental residents each year by placing them around the country in designated sites. Interfaith currently hosts two resident positions. This full-time, year-long program provides residents with a stipend, and full details are available here.
Interfaith Dental Clinic CEO Dr. Rhonda Switzer-Nadasdi had this to say about the program. “We are pleased to be part of this invaluable learning experience for AEGD residents. It was a long process to qualify, but we are so excited to be a clinical site. Our residents spend a whole year with us, and their service will greatly increase our ability to provide comprehensive dental care to working poor families and the low-income elderly.”
Because of Interfaith Dental Clinic’s unique role in Middle Tennessee, we are able to provide residents with advanced comprehensive dental training. Interfaith residents can expect to manage cases that include sedation, implants, full-mouth rehabilitation, and emergency management of medically-compromised patients in addition to general restorative, prosthetic, and endodontic needs of the community. We value and appreciate our residents, providing them with support staff (clinical and non-clinical) to ensure a positive experience in an enhanced training environment.

Dr. Pita in the clinic
“My residency has been a place of self-discovery, challenges, and rewarding experiences that will guide me for the rest of my career. I am grateful for all the opportunities, support, and guidance I have received from my mentors throughout my time with Interfaith (IFDC). My experiences here have transformed me into a more competent dentist. I look forward to my career with confidence having been a part of the IDFC residency as a foundation.”
